Training
•Pre-major built on the Texas Field of Study Curriculum for Music — 31 lower-division credit hours that transfer as a complete block toward a bachelor's degree with a major in Music
•Core sequence: Music Theory, Ear Training, Piano Proficiency, private applied lessons, ensemble performance, and Music Literature
•Full-time faculty: Joshua Frilling teaches piano, ear training, and choir; Dr. David Torres teaches music theory, guitar, and instrumental ensemble; Dr. John Rankin teaches trumpet and directs the jazz ensemble, with adjunct John Godoy also on jazz ensemble
Degree Flexibility
•As a Pre-Major/Transfer designation, Music lets students declare their subject focus for advising while completing SPC's Field of Study block toward a partner university's Music degree
•Coursework is designed to satisfy transfer requirements, prepare students for university auditions, and build ensemble skills applicable to community performance
