Students continue individual instruction and ensemble participation while building a wider academic view of music. The Liberal Arts curriculum combines musicianship, theory, keyboard, music history, applied study, and seven units of ensemble work with six units of upper-division music electives outside performance.
This is Sonoma State's broadest music degree, leaving room for a minor, a second major, or electives elsewhere in the university while retaining sustained conservatory-style participation. The senior project can take the form of a research paper, lecture-demonstration, recital, original composition, course design, or scholarly edition, giving students a capstone that fits their own musical and academic direction.
