•Housed in SMU Meadows' Division of Dance, ranked among the country's top BFA dance programs by OnStage Blog (No. 3 in 2017) and the only Texas program named to DanceUS.org's national list alongside Juilliard, UNCSA, and USC Kaufman
Training
•Conservatory-style technique in a research university: coursework centers on ballet, modern, and jazz, all three required of first-years and sophomores
•Juniors and seniors choose the techniques to concentrate on, adding study in dance history, kinesiology, music theory, and choreography
•Faculty include ballet's Silas Farley (Armstrong Artist-in-Residence) and jazz's Alvon Reed (Artist-in-Residence)
Performance & Productions
•Division mounts full main-stage concerts in the Bob Hope Theatre, plus student-choreographed DanceWorks shows in the Owen Arts Center's Gene and Jerry Jones Grand Atrium and noontime Brown Bag performances
•"Meadows at the Winspear" concerts pair dancers with the Meadows Symphony in the Dallas Arts District
Facilities
•Charles S. Sharp Studio (grand piano, theatrical lighting and sound) and the mirrorless experimental Studio 1430; all dance studios have sprung floors and HD video systems
Location
•Set in the Dallas Arts District, the nation's largest contiguous urban arts district
Degree Flexibility
•Admission requires acceptance to both SMU and the Division of Dance by audition; pairs the conservatory training with any SMU major (about 40% of Meadows students double major)
