No audition required to apply. Students audition for the program after enrolling at the university.
Songs
TWO TO THREE CONTRASTING SONGS
•Prepare two to three songs in contrasting styles
•One selection must be in a language other than English
•Transfer applicants should prepare three songs
•All selections must be performed from memory
ACCOMPANIMENT
•A pianist is provided for the audition
•Bring sheet music for every selection
REPERTOIRE
•Students and teachers are encouraged to choose literature that reflects the singer's experiences and culture

APPLICATION
•Apply to SJSU through Cal State Apply before the university deadline
•The School of Music contacts applicants in late December or early January about audition scheduling
•In many cases no separate scholarship application is required beyond the audition materials
AUDITION OPTIONS
•On-campus auditions are recommended when possible
•Video audition submissions are accepted by the published deadline
•Ensemble placement auditions are separate from entrance auditions and occur before classes begin
What's The Process
AUDITION PROCESS
•A successful School of Music audition is required for admission to BA Music with Voice study
•On-campus audition dates for Fall 2026 entry are February 14 and February 28, 2026
•Southern California off-campus audition date is February 21, 2026
•Video audition submission deadline is February 7, 2026
•Other audition times may be arranged individually through musicrecruitment@sjsu.edu or 408-924-4673
Scholarship Info
MUSIC SCHOLARSHIPS
•Any student who auditions for the School of Music and Dance is automatically considered for a scholarship
•The school provides more than $400,000 in scholarship assistance each year
•Undergraduate awards range from small awards to full tuition
•Recipients must demonstrate financial need, strong musical ability, high academic achievement, and maintain a 3.0 GPA
