Training
•The MM Conducting concentration contains choral, orchestral and wind emphases. Advanced conducting, applied study, theory and score work lead toward recital-level leadership, with the chosen ensemble tradition shaping repertory, gesture, rehearsal method and program building.
Performance & Productions
•SIU's ensembles and extensive concert calendar provide the living setting for conducting study. Students work with the practical demands of rehearsal, interpretation and performance rather than treating conducting only as a classroom technique.
Professional Development
•The degree supports advanced ensemble leadership, college-level work and doctoral preparation. An individualized live or recorded admission assessment is arranged with faculty, mirroring the close mentorship used to plan the graduate course of study.
Facilities
•Altgeld Hall, Shryock Auditorium and Old Baptist Foundation supply rehearsal rooms, performance venues, practice facilities and recording resources for choral, orchestral and wind activity.
