Training
•The three-year MFA Directing sequence integrates directing seminar, performance theory, dramatic literature, script analysis, theater history and a written thesis. First-year students direct a faculty-selected qualifier, second-year students stage heightened-language work such as Shakespeare, and third-year students lead a fully realized production with a complete design team.
Performance & Productions
•Each phase increases production responsibility, moving from the qualifier through classical or heightened text to a thesis-scale staging. McLeod Theater and the flexible Christian H. Moe Laboratory Theater give directors access to contrasting room sizes and audience relationships.
Professional Development
•The written thesis connects the director's production process to theory and critical reflection. Weekly collaboration with actors, designers and production staff develops the leadership, communication and planning expected in professional or collegiate directing.
Facilities
•Two equipped performance venues and departmental production studios support rehearsal, design integration and realized work.
