Training
•The BA Music Liberal Arts concentration uses a flexible 120-credit plan for students who want serious music study alongside another subject. Applied lessons, musicianship, history and ensemble work can be paired with a second major or a substantial academic interest rather than the denser professional-credit pattern of a BM.
Performance & Productions
•Students study an applied specialty and participate in School of Music ensembles. SIU presents hundreds of concerts, recitals, opera performances, musicals and composer events, giving liberal-arts musicians repeated contact with solo, chamber and large-ensemble repertory.
Facilities
•Music activity spans Altgeld Hall, Shryock Auditorium and Old Baptist Foundation, with rehearsal rooms, practice spaces, recording resources, organs and electronic-music facilities.
Degree Flexibility
•The current catalog describes the route as especially suited to combining music with another major. Advising can shape the non-music portion toward fields such as communication, business, sciences or humanities while the music core remains intact.
