Audition Requirements
Songs
ONE MUSICAL THEATRE SONG, approx 1:30 (max 2:00)
•Choose a piece that takes the character on a journey
•Any era or genre of musical theatre — may include musicals written for stage or movies
•Select repertoire that reflects your age and experience
ACCOMPANIMENT
•In-person: live piano accompaniment provided — bring double-sided printed sheet music in a three-ring binder with cuts/notes clearly marked in the appropriate key (one copy required)
•Online: sing with recorded or live accompaniment — do not self-accompany this selection
Monologues
ONE CONTEMPORARY MONOLOGUE, 0:50-1:10
•From a contemporary play or musical written after 1940
-Newer material written after 2000 is preferred
•Choose a piece that takes the character on a journey
•Must be memorized
•Choose a piece that reflects your age and experience
•Use your authentic voice — do not use accents or dialects other than your own
Dance
DANCE COMBINATION (taught at the audition)
•Formal dance training is not required
•Assesses aptitude for dance in music theatre — natural facility, performance ability, willingness to explore
•Includes a group warm-up followed by learning a dance combination
•Combination presented in small groups for assessment
ATTIRE
•Wear something comfortable but not too baggy
•Dance shoes (jazz or ballet) are not required — sneakers are acceptable
Wildcard / Special Skill
PERSONAL CHOICE SELECTION, 1-1:30 min
•Present an offering that showcases your unique interests and abilities as they relate to musical theatre
•Speak about your selection in 1 minute or less — describe what it demonstrates about you as an individual artist
•Must be presented live in your audition
•Options include playing a musical instrument, a self-choreographed movement piece, self-authored works, comedy, puppetry, or a monologue/song that contrasts your other selections
•Minimal set-up recommended — bring any technological support you may need (speakers, etc.)

•Detailed audition submission instructions and due date posted in your Sheridan Application Portal after applying
•Audition assessment fee applies (amount posted in Sheridan Application Portal)
ELIGIBILITY
•Ontario Secondary School Diploma or equivalent with minimum 65% overall average
•Fall enrollment only
•Letters of reference are not accepted

What's The Process
AUDITION FORMAT
•One-stage live audition with five components: monologue, musical theatre song, redirect, dance combination, and personal choice selection
•Order of components determined on audition day
•In-person or online — your choice does not impact your audition score
REDIRECT
•You will be asked to re-explore an excerpt of your monologue or song with alternate direction provided during the audition
•Make new choices based on the redirect — this can include changing embodiment, vocalization, and/or use of physical space
NOTIFICATION
•Decisions released within approximately one month of the audition via Sheridan email
•Decisions will not be released over the phone
•Do not phone or email to inquire about application status
