Training & Performance
•Contemporary dance training integrates technique, composition, improvisation, collaboration, performance, history, and criticism
•Students work across SCA disciplines including film, music and sound, theatre performance, production and design, visual art, and APCS
•The normal first-year schedule includes intensive technique work plus dance history, movement fundamentals, moving image, and improvisation/composition
Vancouver Arts Context
•Downtown Vancouver location supports connections with local, national, and international dance communities
•Internships with local dance companies and artists are encouraged
•Graduates work as performers, choreographers, teachers, critics, arts administrators, and studio leaders
Nbs Teachers' Training Pathway
•Combined degree/diploma path connects SFU Dance study with Canada's National Ballet School Teachers' Training Program
•Students who begin at SFU spend three years at SFU and two years at NBS
•The pathway leads to an SFU BFA degree plus the NBS Teachers' Training diploma
