Wear dance attire appropriate for technique class

Day includes registration, technique class, creative process, and Q&A for students and support people

Creative Process

Bring one minute of movement from a dance you are working on or a solo you are using for auditions

Faculty choreographers guide students in small groups to play with, pull apart, and add to the movement

Demonstrates how candidates work with directions, problem-solve, and collaborate with others

Post-Audition Video

After performing the combination in class, students practice it for one week

Submit a video of the combination demonstrating integration of faculty feedback

Allows faculty to see progress over time

Application Logistics

Admission requires both Cal State Apply and the Dance entrance audition

Only students who have applied to SDSU and received a RED ID may request an audition

The Fall 2027 university application opens August 1 and may be submitted October 1–November 30

The next Dance audition-registration deadline and audition dates have not been published

What's The Process

Audition Process

An in-person entrance audition is required for all Dance degree pathways

Apply to SDSU and obtain a RED ID before requesting an audition

The latest published audition season has ended; dates for the next entrance cycle have not been published

Current SDSU students may email Shirley Valencia to arrange one of the twice-per-semester auditions

Audition Expectations

Includes registration, a technique class, a creative process, and a question-and-answer session

Applicants prepare one minute of movement for the guided creative process
