Audition Requirements

These requirements are from the Fall 2026 entry cycle. Fall 2027 requirements are typically posted between August and October and usually change only slightly — confirm on the official source before submitting.

Repertoire

Two contrasting selections from standard etude and/or solo repertoire

One selection may be a jazz standard

Selections should show rhythmic understanding, technical ability, and musicality

Scales & Technique

All major scales, two octaves or range of the instrument preferred

Pianists should play scales with both hands

After applying, schedule a music placement audition directly with the School of Music

Rolling admission at the college level; the School of Music lists specific audition dates

Admission Pathway

Students are initially accepted into the Music Certificate program

Based on interest, career goals, and the placement audition, students may be accepted into AS Performing Arts: Music

Students who do not feel ready for an audition may start with certificate classes or work individually with faculty

Audition Expectations

Prepared performance on instrument

Sight reading on instrument

Ear training: pitch matching, sing backs, identifying melodic intervals and triads

Sight singing and rhythmic sight reading for non-vocalists
