•Bullet: 20-unit area of emphasis: Survey of Mass Media Communications (Media 1), Introduction to Broadcasting (Media 11), Broadcasting Programming and Management (Media 12), Broadcasting Announcing and Production (Media 13), Newscasting and Newswriting (Journ 4A/Media 14), plus restricted electives in advanced newscasting, sportscasting, radio/podcasting production, short-form visual media, and field production
•Bullet: Program outcomes include analyzing broadcasting-industry theories and demonstrating professional radio/television production and script-writing tools
Facilities
•Bullet: Broadcasting courses are based at the Center for Media and Design, home to a large production suite with broadcast/film control booths, a radio broadcast suite, and multiple post-production editing bays
•Bullet: SMC's own KCRW public radio station is licensed to the college and headquartered in the CMD campus's KCRW Media Center
Degree Flexibility
•Bullet: Graduates are prepared for both broadcasting-industry employment and transfer into four-year degree programs, with SMC articulation agreements supporting transfer to UC, CSU, and private institutions
