Gateway Audition
•Bullet: No audition is required for admission to Mesa College; the Applied Music audition happens after enrollment
•Bullet: The audition gates access to Applied Music or Individualized Study courses used by the music degree
•Bullet: Submit the Applied Music Application by 9:00 pm the day before auditions and email it at least 24 hours before audition day
•Bullet: Auditions are held the first Thursday of each semester
Classical Areas
•Bullet: Current classical areas: voice, guitar, piano, percussion, alto saxophone, flute, and clarinet
•Bullet: Music Performance majors choose either Classical Music or Jazz for the audition
Classical Requirements
•Bullet: Piano and guitar: prepare two contrasting pieces from any historical period; piano candidates also prepare four-octave major/minor scales
•Bullet: Voice: prepare two contrasting classical pieces from different periods and languages
•Bullet: Alto saxophone, flute, and clarinet: prepare two contrasting solo etudes
•Bullet: Percussion: prepare two contrasting solos, one on snare drum and one on mallet instrument
Accompaniment & Equipment
•Bullet: Piano is provided for piano candidates; listed percussion instruments are provided
•Bullet: Classical voice candidates provide a piano accompanist or digital accompaniment; guitarists bring their own guitar
