•One ballad, one up-tempo, one student's choice of tempo
•One from a musical written prior to 1970
•One from a musical written after 1970
•One Italian Art Song
•Must sing to live or recorded piano accompaniment — no a cappella
•Each song filmed as a separate video
Monologues
TWO MONOLOGUES, 60-90 sec each
•From a published play
•One contemporary (written after 1900)
•One classical (written pre-1900)
•Only perform Shakespeare if you feel comfortable doing so
•Each monologue filmed as a separate video
Dance
TWO DANCE VIDEOS
•Solo video — may include show, competition, or performance footage if clearly featured alone
•All choreography performed to music — no a cappella dance
•May be self-choreographed
VIDEO 1
•30-60 sec in your strongest dance discipline (jazz, ballet, modern, African, hip hop, lyrical, or contemporary)
VIDEO 2
•30-60 sec executing grand battements, pirouettes, chaîné turns, saut de chat (to both sides)

Songs

•Vocal and musical assessment: tonal memory exercises, range check, and sight reading
Monologues

•Be prepared to be directed by faculty on one of your monologues
Dance
•Musical theatre dance combination taught during audition

What's The Process
INTRODUCTORY VIDEOS

LIVE AUDITION
•Three in-person audition weekends offered
•Check-in 7:30-8:00 AM Saturday; concludes by 3:30 PM
•Virtual auditions accepted in limited capacity — contact arts@samford.edu
•Includes information sessions on financial aid, faculty insights, and student life
OPTIONAL FRIDAY EXPERIENCE
•Campus and arts facility tours
•Meal with current students and faculty
•Attend a performance
DECISIONS
•Admission decisions sent via email 1-3 weeks after audition
•Scholarship award requires successful university admission first
