Dance

Dance Audition

•In-person BFA audition uses faculty-led ballet, jazz, and modern movement phrases

•Includes an improvisation opportunity

•BFA candidates do not need to prepare a solo for the in-person audition

Video Audition Option

•Applicants who cannot attend an in-person audition may submit an online video

•Submit one required video link; a second link is optional

•Accepted video options include classical ballet barre/center exercises, a jazz/contemporary/modern/hip-hop center combination, or a choreographed solo

What's The Process

Audition Process

•Apply to SHSU and register for the Dance audition through SHSU's audition form

•Online video submission is available for applicants who cannot attend a scheduled audition

•Final program admission is based on both university acceptance and the dance audition

Audition Expectations

•In-person audition includes ballet, modern, and jazz technique work plus improvisation

•Dance auditions may include a brief faculty interview

Post-Enrollment

•Sophomore Gate occurs in Choreography II

•Students present a 3-5 minute faculty-mentored solo and faculty review grades, technique, and choreography progress

•Outcomes are pass, probation with repeat review, or leaving the BFA curriculum
