Audition Requirements

Repertoire List

Instrumental Performance applicants prepare three contrasting repertoire selections in their performing area

Brass and woodwinds: solo, excerpt, or etude repertoire plus major scales

Strings: contrasting solo repertoire demonstrating intonation, rhythm, bow control, and tone

Classical guitar, piano, and organ: contrasting solo repertoire

Percussion repertoire should include at least three areas from snare drum, mallet percussion, timpani, and drum set

Be prepared for sight-reading and scales or technique checks listed for your instrument

Program Requirements

Eight semesters of one-on-one applied lessons on the primary instrument

Junior 30-minute recital and senior 60-minute recital

Piano proficiency exam required

Applied music and other MUSA, MUSC, and MUMT courses may carry lab fees

What's The Process

Audition Process

Music audition required for admission to any BA Music track

Submit the music audition through Acceptd

Rolling audition process; first-year applicants are strongly urged to complete by March 1

Audition must be completed by March 15 for incoming music scholarship consideration

Applicants may upload performance videos or request an in-person campus audition

Faculty interview includes sight-reading and scales or exercises as requested

Theory Advisory Test required before full admission to the music major

Pre-Music Option

Students who do not pass the audition may begin as pre-music majors

Pre-music majors study with applied faculty for a semester before a second audition attempt

Time in pre-music status may add an extra semester or two to the degree timeline
