Audition Process
•All prospective music majors must audition to be considered for entrance into the BA Music degree program
•In-person auditions are strongly recommended and recorded by the Music and Dance department
•Alternative audition arrangements require department chair approval and include a solo performance recording, application letter, and telephone interview
•Applicants receive an approved, provisional, or not approved rating
•Contact the Music and Dance office at 978-542-6503 or ssumusicdance@salemstate.edu to schedule
•Reserve an audition time at least two weeks before the desired audition date
Audition Expectations
•Perform two musical selections of contrasting style that display technical proficiency and musicality
•Perform scales and sight-read
•Complete a music theory placement exam
•Participate in a brief personal interview
