Audition Requirements

These requirements are from the Fall 2026 entry cycle. Fall 2027 requirements are typically posted between August and October and usually change only slightly — confirm on the official source before submitting.

Optional interview for scholarship consideration only; it is not required for program admission.

Repertoire

Instrumental/General applicants should prepare two pieces in contrasting styles

Optional: prepare a piece on a secondary instrument

What's The Process

Audition Format

Schedule an in-person audition by contacting the Department of Music

Audio or video recordings are accepted in lieu of an in-person audition

Indicate three preferred dates (Monday through Friday) for an in-person audition

What to Expect

Students unsure about skill level or repertoire should contact the department for guidance

Private lesson experience is helpful but not required

Music Scholarships

Renewable scholarships are available to incoming music majors who demonstrate musical talent and strong high-school grades

Scholarship interview/audition must occur before April 1

Components include performance on instrument or voice, an interview about background and aspirations, and an optional portfolio such as a resume, transcripts, concert programs, repertoire list, performance recording, or original compositions
