Scholarship Audition and Interview Requirements

These requirements are from the Fall 2026 entry cycle. Fall 2027 requirements are typically posted between August and October and usually change only slightly — confirm on the official source before submitting.

Optional audition and interview for scholarship consideration only; they are not required for program admission.

Monologues

Scholarship Video Submission

Perform a memorized monologue, poem, or story (90 seconds max)

Can be an original piece, poetry, published play, book excerpt, or other material

Looking for storytelling, character, language, physical expressivity, and imagination

Well-lit, clear audio, plain background recommended

Email recording to theatrescholarships@stmarys-ca.edu

Scholarship Callback (by Invitation)

Perform a second monologue from a play published in the last 45 years

Should contrast the first selection (e.g., if first was comedic, second should be dramatic)

Followed by a brief faculty interview

Saint Mary's currently waives the undergraduate application fee

2027-28 Performing Arts Scholarship

Scholarship applications are closed and the official page says they will reopen in October 2026

The current central scholarship page directs applicants to apply before November 1, 2026

Apply to the college before submitting the separate Performing Arts Scholarship application

Dance, Music, and Theatre audition dates for the new cycle have not yet been published

Transfer Pathway

Eligible California community-college ADT students enter Performance and Theatre Studies with junior standing and at least 60 transferable semester units; a theatre advisor can map the remaining performance, history, and upper-division requirements.

No audition is required to major or minor in Theatre

Admission is via Common App only

Scholarship Audition (Actors, Directors, Playwrights)

Step 1: Submit a video recording of a memorized monologue, poem, or story (90 seconds max) to theatrescholarships@stmarys-ca.edu

Step 2: If invited, perform a second contrasting monologue in person at LeFevre Theatre, followed by a faculty interview

Scholarship auditions typically held in January, both in-person and virtual

Results announced by mid-February
