Prescreen Requirements

These requirements are from the Fall 2026 entry cycle. Fall 2027 requirements are typically posted between August and October and usually change only slightly — confirm on the official source before submitting.

Songs

Recall Self-Tape (Stage 2)

One unaccompanied song — verse and chorus only, up to 1.5 minutes

Singing ability is not being assessed; RADA wants to see how you communicate in a different medium

Monologues

Preliminary Self-Tape (Stage 1)

One classical speech, up to 2 minutes

One contemporary speech, up to 2 minutes

1-minute introduction with your name, postcode, course, pieces, and why you chose them

Classical Speech

From Shakespeare or an Elizabethan/Jacobean playwright (Jonson, Marlowe, Webster, etc.)

Must be originally written in English; do not choose Greek tragedy or Moliere

May be performed in your native language, but must also be accompanied by the same piece in English

Contemporary Speech

Contemporary monologue written after 1960

Recall Self-Tape (Stage 2)

One new classical speech following the same rules as Speech A, up to 2 minutes

Final Workshop Day (Stage 4)

Prepare a new audition speech of your choice from any era, Greek to contemporary

Must not have been shown or worked on in earlier stages

Monologues

Short Workshop

Be prepared to take part in group work and to perform the speeches from earlier self-tape rounds

Work with a director to explore the text, character, and opportunities in the material

Full Workshop Day

Prepare a new audition speech of your choice from any era, Greek to contemporary

Must not have been shown or worked on in earlier stages

Perform the speech in front of the group and panel members

Additional Materials

10-minute interview with a senior panel member

Good to Know

Application Logistics

Applications are currently closed and RADA has not yet published the next entry-cycle deadline

Apply via RADA's independent online application form, not through UCAS

Once an application is submitted, applicants have two weeks to upload the preliminary self-tape

Preliminary self-tapes are reviewed first, followed by recall self-tapes, an in-person short workshop, and a full workshop day

Eligibility

Applicants must be at least 18 on the first day of induction week

No specific A-levels or academic qualifications are required; entry is by audition

Applicants must have complete fluency in spoken and written English

RADA welcomes disabled applicants; contact admissions@rada.ac.uk for admissions support

What's The Process

Audition Process

Stage 1 — Preliminary Self-Tape: Submit one classical and one contemporary speech plus introduction; reviewed by two panel members (October–February)

Stage 2 — Recall Self-Tape: Submit a different classical speech plus a song (verse and chorus only); reviewed by three panel members

Stage 3 — In-Person Workshop: A three-hour workshop held at RADA in London where you work on your speeches with a director

Stage 4 — Full Workshop Day & Interview: Prepare a new speech of your choice from any era; followed by a 10-minute interview with a senior panel member

RADA auditions everyone who applies

No academic qualifications required — entry is by audition only

You may only apply once per academic year

Applicants must have excellent conversational English

Due to the volume of applicants, feedback is not routinely provided

Scholarship Info

Automatic Awards

All eligible students with household income under £45,000/year receive £3,000/year automatically

Must be registered on a RADA higher education programme validated by King's College London

Additional Support

Around 50% of undergraduate students receive some financial support from RADA

Care-experienced students receive an additional £1,000/year

Hardship fund available for students facing unexpected financial difficulties

Uk Students

Eligible for Student Loans Company tuition fee loans and maintenance loans
