Audition Requirements

Repertoire List

Prepare primary-instrument repertoire using the classical audition requirements for your instrument area

Example repertoire expectations — Strings: three-octave major and melodic-minor scales (up to 3 sharps/flats), one etude (Kreutzer or equivalent), and one solo (preferably a Classical-or-later concerto or sonata movement); Brass/Woodwinds: two contrasting selections or etudes showing lyrical and technical playing, plus required scales; Percussion: a snare etude, two-octave mallet scales, and a mallet solo

Full per-instrument repertoire lists are published on the Music Audition/Portfolio Requirements page; works of equivalent standard may be substituted

Repertoire may include a short sight-reading check at the audition for some instrument areas
