Audition Requirements

These requirements are from the Fall 2026 entry cycle. Fall 2027 requirements are typically posted between August and October and usually change only slightly — confirm on the official source before submitting.

Repertoire List

•Prepare primary-instrument repertoire using the classical audition requirements for your instrument area

•Example repertoire expectations — Strings: three-octave major and melodic-minor scales (up to 3 sharps/flats), one etude (Kreutzer or equivalent), and one solo (preferably a Classical-or-later concerto or sonata movement); Brass/Woodwinds: two contrasting selections or etudes showing lyrical and technical playing, plus required scales; Percussion: a snare etude, two-octave mallet scales, and a mallet solo

•Full per-instrument repertoire lists are published on the Music Audition/Portfolio Requirements page; works of equivalent standard may be substituted

•Repertoire may include a short sight-reading check at the audition for some instrument areas

•Provide sheet music to the staff accompanist as you enter the room
