Audition Requirements

Repertoire

•Audition on your primary instrument using the classical audition requirements for your instrument area

•Example expectations — Strings: three-octave major and melodic-minor scales (up to 3 sharps/flats), one etude (Kreutzer or equivalent), and one solo (preferably a Classical-or-later concerto or sonata movement); Brass/Woodwinds: two contrasting selections or etudes showing lyrical and technical playing, plus required scales; Percussion: a snare etude, two-octave mallet scales, and a mallet solo

•Full per-instrument repertoire lists are published on the Music Audition/Portfolio Requirements page; works of equivalent standard may be substituted

Sight-Reading

•Several instrument areas include a short sight-reading check at the audition

•Provide sheet music to the staff accompanist as you enter the room

•Submit the Rowan University admissions application, then register for an audition through the Applicant Status Portal

•A staff pianist is provided for the live audition — bring sheet music for the accompanist
