Training
•Bullet: The degree requires eight semesters of applied study (at least six on a primary instrument or voice), eight semester hours of ensemble participation, and coursework in Instrumental Methods I & II, Pedagogy of Voice, and Conducting alongside the core theory and musicianship sequence.
•Bullet: A piano proficiency exam covering scales, chord progressions, transposition, harmonization, and accompanying repertoire is a graduation requirement for every music education major.
Professional Development
•Bullet: Majors complete the professional education program for K-12 teaching described in the college's Education section, plus Methods and Materials: Teaching Fine Arts in the Elementary School (EDC 335) and Teaching Music in the Secondary School (MUS 415), qualifying graduates to teach choral and instrumental music in Montana K-12 schools.
Facilities
•Bullet: Coursework, ensemble rehearsals, and private lessons are based in Losekamp Hall, home to the music department, practice rooms, and faculty offices.
