Audition Requirements

These requirements are from the Fall 2026 entry cycle. Fall 2027 requirements are typically posted between August and October and usually change only slightly — confirm on the official source before submitting.

Repertoire List

Prepared repertoire on your primary applied area (voice or an instrument)

Prepared repertoire: two pieces appropriate to your instrument or voice, following the department's suggested-pieces guidelines

Vocal repertoire: one song in Italian from the Schirmer Twenty-Four Italian Songs and Arias or similar, plus one British or American art song or folk song; Broadway songs are not acceptable

Instrumental repertoire: an etude plus a contrasting solo or movement on your primary instrument

Accompaniment

Accompaniment is not required for instrumentalists

Staff piano accompaniment is provided for vocalists if requested

Admitted students take music theory and sight-singing/ear-training placement at the start of study — for course placement only, not admission

Admission Pathway

Upon admission to the college and passing the music audition, designated a "Music Performance Intended Major"

Transfer Pathway

CCRI's Performing Arts Transfer, Music BA (RIC) JAA provides a direct AA-to-BA Music pathway; eligible students complete the associate degree and enter RIC with 60 credits and junior status.

What's The Process

Audition Process

An entrance music audition is required for admission to the BA in Music

The BA in Music has the most accessible audition expectations of the three music degrees

Applicants who audition for the BM in Performance or BM in Music Education but are not yet ready may be admitted to the BA in Music and re-audition for their preferred degree after one or two semesters

Audition Expectations

In-person audition on the RIC campus at the Nazarian Center for the Performing Arts

Audition heard by a committee of the music faculty

Includes prepared pieces and a short sight-reading exercise

You do not need to be admitted to RIC before auditioning

Recommended to complete your admissions application by your audition date
