Audition Requirements

These requirements are from the Fall 2026 entry cycle. Fall 2027 requirements are typically posted between August and October and usually change only slightly — confirm on the official source before submitting.

Songs

Two Memorized Songs

Prepare two memorized songs, each 2 minutes 30 seconds max

One piece must be a musical theatre song

Second piece can be any style of music from any era and should capture who you are

State the song title and the musical, artist, or band before each piece

Monologues

One Contemporary Monologue

Prepare one monologue from a published contemporary play, 1960-present

Monologue cannot be from a musical

Must be memorized and approximately 1 minute long

State the play title and character before beginning

Read the full play before auditioning

Dance

Video Audition

Prepare one technique exercise and one choreographed piece, approximately 1 minute each

RCPA provides options for dancers with 6+ years of experience and for dancers with 0-5 years of training

Less experienced dancers should show enthusiasm, musicality, and willingness to learn

In-Person Audition

Participate in a guided beginner jazz class at the college

Evaluators look for coordination, rhythm, ability to follow instructions, comfort moving in a group, and expression

Headshot

Required: current head-and-shoulders photo; no costumes or stage makeup

Resume

Required: performing arts or work-related resume

Letters of Recommendation

Required: one letter from a teacher, guidance counsellor, coach, or mentor

Transcript

Required: official high school transcript showing Grade 12 graduation and minimum 65% in Grade 12 English

Interim transcript accepted if Grade 12 is still in progress; official final transcript required before classes

Statement

Required: 200-word personal statement after the application package is received

Scores / GPA

English proficiency test score for applicants whose first language is not English; accepted tests include TOEFL, IELTS, or Duolingo English Test

Application Logistics

Apply through the RCPA application form

Detailed audition instructions are sent by email after the application package is received

Application fee: C$75 for video auditions

Eligibility

Grade 12 graduation required by the first day of class

Minimum 65% in Grade 12 English or equivalent required

Applicants must be able to train in vocal technique, acting and movement, and dance: ballet, jazz, and tap

Enrollment

September and January start dates are listed; January terms are contingent on student numbers

RCPA is not taking new international students for the upcoming cohort

Ontario Career College students, including RCPA students, are not eligible for a post-graduation work permit

What's The Process

Audition Process

Choose either a video audition or an in-person audition

Video audition instructions and the submission link are emailed after the application package is received

In-person auditions are held at the college and include acting, vocal, and beginner jazz dance components

Video auditions are reviewed as received and offers are made on an ongoing basis, subject to availability

Audition Expectations

Auditions assess talent, aptitude, potential, and ability to sustain rigorous training in acting, vocal technique, and dance

Record video auditions horizontally with a stable camera or tripod

Frame acting and singing from the waist to just above the head; full body is best for dance

Use a bright room and neutral or non-distracting background when possible

Decisions

After the video audition and personal statement, the Registrar contacts applicants for a Zoom interview with an audition panel member

In-person applicants interview on the same day as their audition

Second- and third-year students are eligible for a merit-based bursary

First-year students may be considered for a bursary based on demonstrated financial need
