Scholarship Audition, Interview, and Portfolio Requirements

Optional audition, interview, and portfolio for scholarship consideration only; they are not required for program admission.

Songs

Optional Song

Students who want to sing may either add 32 bars of a song to two monologues or perform one monologue plus 32 bars of a song

Song may be musical theater, folk, rock, opera, or another style

Accompaniment

Recorded/live accompaniment or a cappella is accepted for online auditions

Bring/provide your own accompaniment and playback equipment for in-person scholarship auditions

Monologues

Two Contrasting Monologues, 1-2 Minutes Each

Fully memorized

Choose pieces that differ significantly in style or range, such as one comic and one dramatic piece

Online guidance also allows one classical piece (pre-1850, such as Shakespeare, Moliere, or Greek tragedy) and one contemporary piece

In-person scholarship guidance asks for one contemporary monologue and one classic monologue with contrasting mood

Alternate Song Option

Prepare one monologue, 1-2 minutes, plus 32 bars of a song

Monologue may be any type or era from a published play

Headshot

Acting scholarship auditions: bring a recent headshot to the in-person audition

Resume

Acting scholarship auditions: bring a performance resume to the in-person audition

Portfolio

Technical theatre scholarship interviews: bring materials showing technical theatre experience

Materials may range from a full portfolio presentation to a conversation about interests and goals

Audition Process

No audition is required for admission to the BA Theatre program

Optional Performing Arts Scholarship auditions/interviews are available for students interested in RMC stage productions

Online auditions are accepted on a rolling basis

Audition Expectations

Acting track: audition and interview with faculty

Technical theatre track: interview with portfolio/materials

Online acting auditions use a single continuous take with no edits
