Audition Process
•Perform three memorized works from one or more popular/commercial genres (pop, rock, classical, jazz, country, urban, hip-hop, gospel, Latin) that show technical ability and artistry; pieces may be performed with a collaborative musician or recorded tracks
•A faculty committee observes and engages the student in follow-up discussion
•Also explored: sight-reading (notation and chord sheets); melody, pitch, harmony, and chord voicing; and performance/expression
Audition Expectations
•In-person audition on a scheduled date; if in-person is not possible, upload videos to YouTube and submit unlisted links to the commercial music director, slating each video with your name and intended concentration
•A drum kit and other gear are available on request
•Submit the online audition request form, then contact the School of Music at 260-481-6714
Decisions
•Students indicating music as their major are placed in "Pre-Music" upon university acceptance
•Full acceptance as a music major requires a successful audition
