Repertoire List

Guitar Performance (L400) repertoire and technique: one movement from Cello Suite No. 1 by J.S. Bach; plus one Pavan by Luis Milan, one study (Nos. 4-20) from Twenty Studies for the Guitar by Fernando Sor (Segovia edition), or one study (Nos. 5-10) from Estudios Sencillos by Leo Brouwer; perform on a nylon-string classical guitar approved by the instructor; demonstrate classical technique, phrasing, dynamics, articulation, major scales with position shifts, sight-reading, and aural perception

Application Process

Apply to PFW via Common App or the school website

Submit the School of Music audition request form to schedule a primary-instrument audition

Placement Exams

Admitted students take music theory and aural-skills placement assessments at orientation for course placement only, not admission

Non-keyboard majors complete a piano proficiency requirement during the degree

Grade Requirements

C- or better in all required music courses; overall GPA of 2.5 or higher for required music courses

Audition Process

Prepared classical guitar repertoire on a nylon-string instrument (instructor approval required)

Major scales with position shifts and sight-reading

Aural perception evaluation

An instructor interview (often by phone) determines audition readiness; applicants not ready for the L400 level may audition for pre-music (L200) standing

Decisions

Students indicating music as their major are placed in "Pre-Music" upon university acceptance
