Monologues
ONE CONTEMPORARY MONOLOGUE, 30-60 sec
•Must be memorized
•From a play or musical
Songs
TWO VOCAL SELECTIONS, showcasing range and musicianship
OPTION 1 — MUSICAL THEATRE SCHOLARSHIP ONLY
•Two contrasting selections from musical theatre repertoire
-Example: one up-tempo contemporary and one ballad from the Golden Age of Broadway
•Prepare 5 minutes of music total
OPTION 2 — MUSIC + MUSICAL THEATRE SCHOLARSHIP
•One art or folk song (Solo and Ensemble competition repertoire, art songs, or folk songs with sheet music; one in a language other than English preferred but not required)
•One selection from the musical theatre repertoire
•Prepare 5 minutes of music total
ACCOMPANIMENT
•School-provided pianist available for in-person auditions
•Bring clean copy of music for the pianist
•Double-sided music in a three-ring binder preferred

AUDITION FORMAT
•Perform vocal selections and monologue for faculty
•Musical Theatre applicants sing for Music faculty in a second location
•Brief interview following the audition
•In-person: on campus February 20-22, 2026
•Virtual: submit video to theatre-dance@plu.edu, faculty conducts Zoom interview
DUAL AUDITION
•Students can audition for both Music and Musical Theatre scholarships in one session
•Voice scholarship applicants also present monologue and dance for Theatre faculty
