Songs

VOICE SCHOLARSHIP AUDITION

•Faculty usually hear two or three selections

•Sing songs of different types and styles appropriate to your vocal range

•Preferred repertoire: opera, oratorio, art song, and standard sacred classics

•Acceptable repertoire: hymns and selections from musicals

ACCOMPANIMENT

•Voice auditions must be performed with accompaniment

•Vocalists may not self-accompany

•Recorded auditions may use recorded accompaniment

PREPARATION

•Memorization is preferred and counts favorably in scholarship evaluation

Additional Materials

Music scholarship audition application

•Complete the online Music Scholarship Audition Application

•Include scholarships, awards, citations, and honors if applicable

Repertory sheet

•Include a complete repertory sheet listing literature prepared and sung

Sheet music

•Bring copies of sheet music for the accompanist at live auditions

Recorded audition link

•Upload video to a file-sharing location and provide a shareable link or attach the recording in Section 2 of the application form

APPLICATION LOGISTICS

•Apply to PLNU via Common App or the PLNU application

•Submit the Music Scholarship Audition Application online to be considered for department music scholarships

ADMISSION PATHWAY

•No audition required for admission to the BA Music program

•Scholarship auditions are a separate optional process

IMPORTANT NOTES

•Music scholarships are open to music majors and students pursuing other majors

•First-year department music scholarships are renewable annually for four years

What's The Process

AUDITION PROCESS

•Scholarship auditions are optional and separate from admission to the BA Music program

•Voice auditions are heard by a faculty committee, usually with questions before or after selections

•In-person auditions are held on campus; PLNU can provide an accompanist if requested in advance

•Recorded auditions are accepted for students unable to audition live

•In-person scholarship auditions: February 7 and February 14, 2026

•Recorded auditions for Fall 2026 accepted until February 2, 2026

AUDITION EXPECTATIONS

•Announce your name and piece title at the beginning of each recorded performance

•Standard smartphone audio and video quality is acceptable

•Dress appropriately and arrive in time to warm up for live appointments

MUSIC DEPARTMENT SCHOLARSHIPS

•Scholarship auditions held in voice, piano, wind, string, and percussion

•Awards renewable annually for four years

•Open to music majors and students pursuing other majors

ENDOWED VOCAL SCHOLARSHIPS

•Ethridge Vocal Scholarship: junior/senior voice majors, regardless of need

•Hussong Memorial Scholarship: vocal performance or trombone, 3.0 GPA, financial need

•Additional endowed music scholarships available via spring audition
