Training
•Six-course minor anchored by a required production experience and broad elective choice across the department's offerings
•THEA 0880, Theatrical Production: Run Crew, is mandatory for every minor
•Two further foundational courses are required, chosen from THEA 0505, THEA 0804, or THEA 0810
•Three elective courses round out the minor, drawn from the department's full catalog spanning acting, directing, design and technical theatre, playwriting, and theatre history
Performance & Productions
•The mandatory run-crew course puts minors to work backstage on an actual Pitt Stages production
•The 2026-2027 season runs Gloria (dir. Ricardo Vila-Roger) and Hundred Days (dir. Cynthia Croot) in the fall, then The Metamorphosis (dir. Keelie Sheridan) and Rent (dir. Kelly Trumbull) in the spring
•Minors may also audition for onstage roles in any of these productions — open university-wide and optional, not a minor requirement
•Shows are staged in the Charity Randall Theatre and Henry Heymann Theatre in Foster Memorial, plus the Richard E. Rauh Studio Theatre in the Cathedral of Learning
Degree Flexibility
•Pairs with any primary major; the elective slate lets students lean toward performance, design and technical theatre, or dramatic literature and history depending on interest
•Declared through the Dietrich School of Arts and Sciences Major, Minor, and Certificate Declaration Form, and posts to the academic record at graduation
