Training
•21-credit certificate combining Theatre Arts and Music coursework, open to any undergraduate regardless of major or prior performance experience
•12 required Theatre Arts credits: Musical Theatre Appreciation, Musical Theatre Performance, Intro to Musical Theatre Design, plus a choice between Immigrants and the Musical or Queer Broadway
•6 required Music credits selected from two of: Fundamentals of Music, Introduction to Western Art Music, Theory 1, Music and Film, Listening to Live Music Performance, or The Sounds of Romantic Comedy
•3 elective credits from Theatre Arts or Music, chosen from courses not already used to satisfy other certificate requirements
•Certified by Theatre Arts Director of Undergraduate Studies Gianni Downs upon completion
Performance & Productions
•Pitt Stages' 2026-2027 season includes two mainstage musicals: Hundred Days, directed by Cynthia Croot, and Rent, directed by Kelly Trumbull
•Certificate students may audition for these and other department productions on the same open, university-wide basis as any Pitt student — the certificate itself carries no audition requirement
•Mainstage shows run in the Charity Randall Theatre and Henry Heymann Theatre, both inside Foster Memorial, with studio work staged in the Richard E. Rauh Studio Theatre in the Cathedral of Learning
•Students can also perform and build community through the student-run Pitt Musical Theatre Club

•Designed to be completed alongside any primary major, with no separate audition or portfolio gate for admission
