Audition Requirements

These requirements are from the Fall 2026 entry cycle. Fall 2027 requirements are typically posted between August and October and usually change only slightly — confirm on the official source before submitting.

Dance

Live Audition

Ballet and modern group class work with faculty

Two-minute solo composition in a dance style of your choice, with or without music

Faculty interview and essay discussion follow the movement audition

Women's Attire

Solid-color leotard

Convertible pink or skin-tone tights recommended for quick transition from ballet to modern

Men's Ballet Attire

Black tights or black unitard, with tights worn inside shoes

Snug plain white, gray, or black tank/t-shirt or leotard

Dance belt

Waistband or belt to hold up tights

Black ballet shoes with elastics appropriately attached

Men's Modern Attire

Snug plain black or plain white t-shirt or leotard

Footless tights or tight-fitting black fitness pants

Unitards or biker shorts may be substituted

Barefoot, no shoes or socks

Required: Complete the Prospective Dance Major form in Acceptd

Letters of Recommendation

Required: submit one letter from a high school dance teacher or other dance professional familiar with your dancing

Essay

Required: one-page essay, single spaced, 500 words max

Prompt: describe your interest in dance

Resume

Required: one-page dance resume including GPA

Headshot

Required: submit a headshot and full-body dance image

Dance Video

Required: upload one video, under 2 minutes

What's The Process

Audition Process

Admission to Dance is by audition only; submit the College of the Arts application in Acceptd and select an audition date

University admission is separate, and a full program offer requires university acceptance

Complete a live audition and interview with dance faculty before initial enrollment

Video submissions are accepted only for provisional consideration when a live audition is not practical

Application materials must be submitted before the audition

Audition Expectations

Materials and auditions should be complete at least six weeks before the first term

Approval is based on audition, interview, written essay, and review of previous work

Recipients must declare and remain a dance major during the grant period

Recipients must maintain a 3.0 GPA in dance courses
