•Ouachita's Theatre Education bachelor's pathway combines theatre study with teacher preparation for students who want to teach theatre.
•The current degree plan identifies Theatre Education as a BA with a Secondary Education major and 7-12 licensure.
Training
•Theatre coursework includes Introduction to the Theatre, Theatre Practicum, Acting 1 and 2, Fundamentals of Stagecraft and Design, Theatre History, Dramatic Theory & Play Development, Play Directing, and Creative Drama for Classroom Teachers.
•Teaching Theatre in the K-12 Classroom connects theatre practice with classroom instruction.
•Students complete a junior/senior theatre elective from performance, history, or design and choose an additional drama-focused course such as American Drama, Shakespeare, or Studies in Drama.
Professional Development
•The professional education sequence covers Foundations of Education, Instructional Technology, Child and Adolescent Development, Teaching Exceptional Learners, Learning Theories & Assessment Practices, student-teaching seminars, student teaching, and secondary methods/classroom management.
•The degree plan identifies admission to the Teacher Education Program and Praxis II testing as part of the formal teacher-preparation and licensure pathway.
