Songs

Two Contrasting Pieces

•Two contrasting pieces demonstrating vocal skill and technique

•Demonstrate posture, breath, range, and tone appropriate to your area of interest

•Memorization preferred

•Classical, musical theatre, commercial music, praise & worship, hymns, or original songs may be used

Accompaniment

•A pianist is provided for on-campus auditions — bring a copy of your sheet music

•You may also bring your own pianist, use accompaniment tracks, or accompany yourself

Additional Materials

Repertoire

•Voice principals: two contrasting prepared pieces demonstrating vocal skill and technique (memorization preferred)

•Keyboard principals: two prepared selections in contrasting/different styles, preferably classical repertory (memorization preferred)

•Instrumental principals: two prepared selections — All-Region or UIL etudes, or solo literature

What's The Process

Audition Process

•On-campus audition or online video submission via the student application portal

•Students who submit video auditions may be asked to audition in person

•Register at obu.edu/audition to schedule an on-campus audition time

•Practice rooms available for rehearsal prior to the audition

•Check in at the School of Performing Arts office (Mabee 107)

Audition Expectations

•Prepared audition on your principal instrument or voice for admission to the Bachelor of Arts in Music

•Voice principals follow the vocal guidelines; keyboard and instrumental principals follow the keyboard/instrumental guidelines

•On-campus audition or online video submission; video applicants may be asked to audition in person

•Keyboard and instrumental principals sight-read a composition selected by the faculty, suitable for your level

•A pianist is provided for vocal and keyboard on-campus auditions; an accompanist is not provided for instrumental auditions
