Prescreen Requirements

Songs

MTCP Song Option A

Two Contrasting songs, 60-90 sec each

One song written before 1970 (musical theater, Golden Age, pop, hip-hop, folk, rock, rap, soul, country, punk, etc.)

One song written after 1970 (musical theater, pop, hip-hop, folk, rock, rap, soul, country, punk, etc.)

Should contrast the style of the first selection

Style & Preparation

No a cappella singing — all songs must have musical accompaniment

All songs should be memorized

Consider how your song choices will contrast: style, composer, legit/belt

Don't sing two songs where the characters or stories are identical

If you do it well, OU is very interested in seeing/hearing a commercial music piece (Hip Hop, Rap, Pop, Rock, R&B, Folk, Country, etc. from the 1950s/60s to present) — they are looking for vocal style and an authentic, non-theatre sound

Monologues

MTCP Monologue Option A

One monologue, 60-90 sec

One monologue from a published play or written by a professional writer

Selection should be age-appropriate, without dialect, costumes, or props

Artistic Advice

OU prefers to see a contemporary selection (post-1950)

Choose monologues age-appropriate (within 5-10 years of your actual age) and authentic to your culture, background, and lived experience

Active monologues work best — those that take place in real time, focus on what you want, and put you in direct communication with an imaginary scene partner

Avoid monologues that rely on extreme emotions or are stories/remembrances

Dance

MTCP Dance Option A

One Dance REEL, 30-60 sec

Show your best version of dancing or moving

Include at least one turn, one jump, and one kick (or suitable rotation, elevation, and extension that works for your body)

Any dance discipline: jazz, ballet, modern, hip hop, lyrical, contemporary, or styles beyond American and Euro-western

Format

Film in a full body shot — keep entire body in frame at all times

No barre work (a ballet solo is acceptable)

No tap — showcase tap as part of your Wild Card submission instead

Can be self-choreographed, but must be a solo video

All choreography must be performed to music — no a cappella dance

No need to slate in dance media (may add graphic title to credit choreographer)

Ballet

MTCP Ballet Option C

Ballet not required

Optional Wild Card

Submissions should be no more than 60 seconds

This wild card media can be anything you want: a special skill, an additional form of dance, an instrument that you play, etc.

It should serve you well and add to your submission

Use this opportunity to demonstrate another talent or passion in your life that makes you a more interesting person and artist

Additional Materials

Slate Video (Required)

Record one introduction video stating your name and pronouns (if desired)

Speak loudly and clearly directly at the camera

No longer than 10 seconds

No need to slate individual performance videos

Letters of Recommendation

Two letters from a mentor, teacher, or director

Essay Questions (150 Words Max per Answer)

Application Logistics

Submit prescreen audition materials via Acceptd

University application via Common App (separate process)

Program participates in Musical Theater Common Prescreen (2026-27 cycle)

Apply to OU by December 15 to qualify for academic/leadership scholarships

Prescreen applications for Fall 2027 open September 1

CAP attendees are not required to submit prescreens directly to OUMT, but those who do receive priority consideration for callbacks

Admission Pathway

Must complete both the OU university application and the separate Acceptd prescreen

Admission to OU does not guarantee admission to the School of Musical Theatre

Only students also accepted academically to OU will be considered

What's The Process

Audition Process

Submit all video audition materials through Acceptd

The entire OUMT faculty reviews your prescreen to discern potential for success in their curriculum

You will be notified via email through Acceptd whether you are invited for a callback

Callbacks are held on campus or at Moonified Auditions (Dallas, TX) and Unified Auditions (New York City, Chicago, Los Angeles)

Students who participate in Moonified Auditions do not need to attend a spring on-campus audition date

No spring callback auditions are offered prior to the December 1 prescreen deadline

If invited, you will receive a schedule of specific days and times to book your audition

If you cannot attend your selected date, contact OUMT as soon as possible — alternate dates are not guaranteed

Walk-in callback auditions are not accepted

Rolling — spots fill as the year progresses; audition sooner rather than later
