OFB and Contemporary Dance Oklahoma are among the few college-based companies to tour internationally — Japan, Mexico, Ecuador, Paraguay, Taiwan, China, and France — and have earned awards at the American College Dance Festival plus reviews in Dance Magazine and The New York Times.

Prescreen Requirements

Dance

Video Screening

All auditioners submit a video submission for faculty assessment before a live campus audition invitation.

Applicants are notified by email whether they are invited to the live in-person campus audition.

Students invited to audition for both ballet and modern may participate in both auditions on the same day.

Ballet

Attire

Female: solid color leotard with full-length footed tights in pink or complementing skin tone, coordinating ballet technique shoes; tights worn inside the leotard; pointe shoes for all center work; no skirts

Male: solid color t-shirt tucked into tights, dance belt, full-length black or grey tights, coordinating ballet technique shoes

Barre Work (En Pointe Optional)

Pliés in 1st and 5th positions

Tendu/Dégagés from 1st and 5th positions (include accented work)

Rond de Jambe/Fondu/Développé

Grand Battement

Center Work (Must Be Filmed on Both Sides; Women Must Be En Pointe)

Adagio (include penché arabesque, large pose pirouette, promenade)

Pirouettes en dehors and en dedans

Petit Allegro (include batterie)

Grand Allegro (only if appropriate space is available)

Relevés, consecutive relevés on one leg, échappés, piqué and chaîné turns

Men: include tour en l'air, entrechat six

A variation from the classical repertory — may be filmed in studio or recorded from a recent stage performance

Audition Requirements

Dance

Live Campus Audition

Invited applicants attend the live in-person campus audition at the OU School of Dance.

Published audition days run 8:30 AM to 5:00 PM.

Applicants may be asked to participate in a brief faculty interview if invited to the live audition.

Application Logistics

Undergraduate applicants apply to OU through the Common App and complete the separate School of Dance audition submission.

There is a $15 application fee for each School of Dance audition application.

Admission Pathway

Admission to OU does not need to be complete before auditioning, but university admission remains a separate requirement.
