Program Recognition
•OU's School of Dance grew from a department founded in 1961 by Ballet Russe de Monte Carlo principals Miguel Terekhov and Yvonne Chouteau, and was elevated to School of Dance status in 1998.
•Dance Magazine has consistently ranked OU's School of Dance among the top three in the nation for ballet and modern training.
Training
•The Ballet Pedagogy BFA requires 61-63 major hours, pairing classical ballet technique and company work with a teaching-focused track: teaching of ballet technique, dance history, choreography, and a supervised teaching practicum.
•Designed for dancers aiming at studio and conservatory teaching careers, not only performance, so students graduate with documented practicum experience leading classes.
Performance & Productions
•Students perform with Oklahoma Festival Ballet, the school's classical company, which maintains a repertoire of over 50 ballets.
•Oklahoma Festival Ballet and Contemporary Dance Oklahoma are among the few college-based companies to tour internationally, with stops in Japan, Mexico, Taiwan, China, and France, and have drawn reviews in Dance Magazine and The New York Times.
