Monologues

CHOOSE ONE OPTION

ACTING ONLY

Two contrasting monologues, no longer than 90 seconds each
Monologues should be from a published play or film
Should contrast each other (e.g., one comedic and one dramatic)

ACTING & SINGING

One monologue, no longer than 90 seconds
Monologue should be from a published play or film
Songs

ONE SONG, no longer than 32 bars (if choosing Acting & Singing option)

Song should be from a Broadway musical
Bring backing track on your phone
Virtual auditioners must play backing track themselves

Must successfully complete an audition prior to enrollment
Auditions held during Fall and Spring Open Houses in Oxford, MS
Virtual auditions available (must notify department in advance)

ENROLLMENT

Students audition the spring prior to first year or the weekend prior to first fall semester

AUDITION FORMAT

Choose Acting Only (two monologues) or Acting & Singing (one monologue + one song)
Brief interview portion with faculty follows the audition

VIRTUAL OPTION

Available for students unable to attend Open House — must notify department in advance
Follow same guidelines as in-person auditions
Virtual auditioners receive further details during audition week

Scholarship Info

THEATRE MERIT SCHOLARSHIPS

Up to 25 awarded annually based on auditions
Must be a theatre major in good academic standing

NAMED SCHOLARSHIPS

Upton-Cantú Scholarship — merit-based, awarded yearly to a BFA Acting student
Patricia Tarr Leavitt Scholarship — for Mississippi residents pursuing BA or BFA in Theatre & Film
