These requirements are from the Fall 2026 entry cycle. Fall 2027 requirements are typically posted between August and October and usually change only slightly — confirm on the official source before submitting.

Portfolio (Required)

Include two to four original composition scores in the portfolio; contrasting styles preferred; works may be in any style and legible computer-generated scores are encouraged but not required

Video (Recommended)

Submit a performance recording (audio file or video) of one or more portfolio works; mp3 or .wav files are acceptable

Application Logistics

Apply to OBU via Common App or direct application (free)

Submit the Music Application separately

Preferably send the Music Audition Form, scores, and recordings at least two weeks ahead of any audition date

Put your name on all copies of music and recordings; materials may be returned on request

Eligibility

Rolling admissions

Admission is by portfolio review with the composition faculty rather than a performance audition

What's The Process

Review Process

Apply to OBU first; music study admission and financial aid require university acceptance

Submit the Music Application (separate from the university application)

Submit your portfolio of original scores and recordings for the composition faculty to review

At the audition, the composition faculty provide feedback and use your portfolio and the meeting to determine admission to the program

After Your Review

You will receive two notices by mail from the Division of Music

First notice: your readiness to pursue a degree in music at OBU

Second notice: financial aid offered by the Division of Music
