Audition Requirements

This program has a required admission audition and a separate internal audition gate after enrollment. The gateway source documents the post-enrollment gate; admission requirement details may be separate.Gateway source

Songs

Requirements

Two Contrasting songs, 60-90 sec each

One song should be a BALLAD and one should be UP-TEMPO to contrast style

Each song should be 60-90 seconds — do not exceed this time limit

Must sing to musical accompaniment — no a cappella

Monologues

Requirements

One Contemporary monologue, 60-90 sec

Must be from a published play written after the year 2000

Cannot be from a musical, television show, movie, monologue collection, or one-person show

Dance

Dance Call

Dance calls held at on-campus auditions and select off-campus auditions

Optional Dance Video Supplement

30-60 seconds of dance in any discipline you feel most confident

Jazz, ballet, tap, modern, cultural dance styles, hip hop, lyrical, or contemporary

Choreography should be story-driven and connected to the music

No barre work — a ballet solo is acceptable

Must be a solo video of you (can be from a show or performance if clearly featured alone)

Self-choreographed choreography is acceptable

All choreography must be performed to music — no a cappella dance

Wildcard Video (Optional), 60 Sec Max

Showcase anything you'd like the faculty to know about you

A special skill, an interesting story, a passion speech, an instrument you play, etc.

Submit via the optional dance video supplement form

Eligibility

Students not admitted to BFA may be admitted to the BA in Theater

Transfer students require an audition for BFA admission

Transfer Pathway

Transfer applicants must audition for the Musical Theater track. Theater courses must be pre-qualified through Ohio's Transfer Assurance Guide or evaluated by the BFA program head or School of Theater assistant director.

Audition Process

Audition required for BFA Performance - Musical Theater admission

Video audition submissions are available through the applicant status portal after applying to OHIO

BFA applicants who do not complete the audition but are admissible to the University will be admitted to the BA in Theater

Audition Expectations

Audition includes songs, monologue, and dance

Dance calls are held at on-campus auditions and select off-campus auditions

Optional dance and wildcard video supplements may be submitted to support the audition
