Audition Requirements

Songs

TWO CONTRASTING SELECTIONS

•Choose from songs and arias of the 17th and 18th centuries and art songs from the 19th century to the present

•One selection must be in English, the other in a non-English language

•Broadway pieces may be used for the English selection

•All selections must be sung from memory

Accompaniment

•OWU provides an accompanist for in-person auditions

•Accompanist not guaranteed if applying within the final week of February

•For video recordings, make appropriate cuts to piano accompaniment so the soloist is not idle for more than about 20 seconds

•Register via the OWU music scholarship portal

•Audition dates fill quickly; register as soon as possible to hold a spot

Eligibility

•Must be admitted to OWU before auditioning

What's The Process

Audition Process

•Audition serves as both gateway to the music major and scholarship consideration

•All auditions must be completed by March 1

Audition Expectations

•In-person auditions are 10 minutes, followed by an interview with Performing Arts faculty

•Video recording accepted if unable to attend in person

•For video, all works should be performed in full

•Includes a brief sight-reading exercise

•In-person auditions strongly encouraged

•Scholarship awards are no longer available after this deadline

•Students may still audition before May 1 for major status without scholarship

•Students may also begin fall courses and audition at their first-semester jury

•Maintain a major or performance minor in music

•Minimum GPA in music courses of 2.75 at end of first year, 3.00 in succeeding years
