Application Logistics
•Bullet: Apply to Occidental College first; music students are admitted by the College, not by the Music Department
•Bullet: Optional music supplements are submitted through SlideRoom via the Common Application
•Bullet: Music supplements are reviewed by Music faculty and forwarded to Admission
•Bullet: Music supplement deadlines follow the chosen Fall 2027 application round: November 1 for Early Decision / Early Action and January 10 for Early Decision II / Regular Decision.
Admission Pathway
•Bullet: No audition is required to declare the BA Music major
•Bullet: Students declare the major after arriving at Occidental, usually during the first two years
•Bullet: Students choose a focus when they declare the Music major
•Bullet: Instrumental Performance is a current focus option within the BA Music major
Program Requirements
•Bullet: To declare Music, students must complete MUSC 151 Music Theory II with a C or higher
•Bullet: Students with substantial theory background may take the Music Theory Placement Exam to try to place directly into MUSC 151
•Bullet: Ensemble and lesson auditions happen after enrollment and do not replace the optional admission supplement
