•BM Jazz Composition is offered within Oberlin Conservatory’s Jazz Studies Division
•Program Director: Jay Ashby, Associate Professor of Jazz Studies
•Every jazz composition student studies privately with an applied-instrument teacher alongside the composition sequence, which begins freshman year
Performance & Productions
•The program culminates with public presentation of original works for jazz ensembles of various sizes on students’ junior and senior recitals
•Recent guest artists who have performed alongside student compositions include Etienne Charles, Nicholas Payton, Rufus Reid, and alumnus Michael Mossman ’82
Facilities
•Finney Chapel (Oberlin Jazz Ensemble performances) and the Cat in the Cream Coffeehouse for small jazz ensemble concerts
