Songs
TWO MEMORIZED SONGS in contrasting styles with piano accompaniment
•Classical, folk, or foreign language songs are welcome
•One musical theatre piece may be substituted
•Must be memorized
ACCOMPANIMENT
•Bring your own accompanist or use a staff accompanist at no charge
•If using staff accompanist, music must be in a 3-ring binder
REPERTOIRE GUIDELINES
•Classical song literature and folksong arrangements are appropriate
•See MSVMA Solo and Ensemble list and NATS high school audition requirements for guidance
VIDEO AUDITIONS
•Use an accompaniment track (available on YouTube)
•Apps like Appcompanist offer classical and musical theatre accompaniments

•Apply and be accepted to Oakland University first

What's The Process
AUDITION FORMAT
•Vocal audition with two contrasting songs
•Interview with vocal faculty
•Music theory placement exam (does not affect admission — placement purposes only)
•In-person auditions held on campus on scheduled dates
•Video auditions available for those unable to attend in person
THEORY PLACEMENT EXAM
•Required as part of audition — 1 hour to complete
•Does not affect admission decision
•Used to place you into the correct theory course
