Program Recognition
•This dual-degree track pairs the BM Music Education, Instrumental and General Music credential with a full BM Instrumental Performance degree, so graduates earn both a teaching certification and a performance degree in one program of study.
•The Department of Music is NASM-accredited; the performance side runs through the strings, woodwind, brass, and percussion faculty, including Brass Program Coordinator Kenneth Kroesche.
Training
•Students complete the full instrumental-performance applied sequence alongside music-specific education courses rather than School of Education coursework and more than 100 hours of community engagement before student teaching.
•The combined program prepares graduates for the Michigan Test for Teacher Certification while also meeting BM Instrumental Performance's applied-study requirements.
Professional Development
•Students have access to more than 150 music-education and performance events each year, plus Oakland Symphony Orchestra, Wind Symphony, and chamber-ensemble opportunities.
•Graduates are prepared for K-12 teaching as well as performing and conducting careers.
