•Show previous theatrical and artistic projects in a detailed and organized manner

•Photographs, models, and artwork are acceptable

Application Logistics

•Apply and be accepted to Oakland University first

•Complete university application at least two weeks before audition date

•Register for a portfolio presentation via the SMTD registration form when registration is open

•No application fee or audition registration fee

•For Fall 2027 entry, audition registration opens by October 1, 2026; Oakland says not to use the current prior-cycle form

•Transfer students follow the same two-step process and provide unofficial transcripts

What's The Process

Audition Expectations

•Present a portfolio of work to faculty

•Share interests, previous work experience, and career goals

•Be prepared to discuss a favorite theatrical production or script

•Dress in a professional manner ("office casual" is appropriate)

•Video portfolio review is available for those unable to attend in person

•Submit a link to your portfolio for review

•Select "Video" as preferred audition date on the registration form

•Provide the portfolio link when prompted for video links

•Virtual interview scheduled after faculty review

Post-Enrollment

•After completing initial coursework, students complete a second review to proceed to upper-level courses

Departmental Scholarships

•Talent-based scholarships awarded based on portfolio presentation

•Students who present portfolios in February or March are automatically considered
