Audition Requirements
Monologues
TWO CONTRASTING MONOLOGUES, 4 min combined max
•One comic and one dramatic, or one classical and one contemporary
•Monologues should show different abilities highlighting the candidate's strengths
•Must be memorized
•Should not be in a dialect
•Must be from a play
•Should be suited to the age of the candidate
VIDEO AUDITIONS
•Monologues should not exceed 3 minutes total (90 seconds each)
•No movement call requirement for video auditions

•Single-page resume listing productions, roles, and training

APPLICATION PROCESS
•Apply and be accepted to Oakland University first
•Complete university application at least two weeks before audition date
•Register for an audition via the SMTD registration form
•No application fee — Oakland University is a fee-free institution
ENROLLMENT
•Fall enrollment
•Transfer students follow the same two-step process and provide unofficial transcripts
What's The Process
AUDITION FORMAT
•Two contrasting monologues
•Group movement call
•Interview with faculty
MOVEMENT CALL
•No prior preparation required
•Warm-up followed by physical exercises led by faculty
•Bring basic rehearsal attire allowing ease of movement
•No bulky or oversized sweatpants or sweatshirts
•Jazz shoes recommended; bare feet also appropriate
•Street shoes may not be worn on the dance floor
VIDEO AUDITIONS
•Reserved for those unable to attend in person
•Upload videos to a file sharing platform (YouTube, Google Drive, iCloud, etc.)
•Set sharing permissions so anyone with the link can view
•Select "Video" as preferred audition day on the registration form
•Virtual interview scheduled after faculty review of materials
