Audition Requirements

These requirements are from the Fall 2026 entry cycle. Fall 2027 requirements are typically posted between August and October and usually change only slightly — confirm on the official source before submitting.

Songs

Requirements

•Approximately 16 Bars of a Song

•Song is not to assess singing ability, but to see where your voice is and if you are capable of acting through a song

Monologues

Requirements

•Four Monologues total

•Two contemporary pieces (1919 to Present)

•Two classical pieces (2500 BCE to c.1918)

•Should be classical and contemporary, both comedic and dramatic

•Two being in verse (rhymed or unrhymed)

•No piece should be longer than 2 minutes and 30 seconds

Material Selection

•Please avoid selecting multiple pieces by the same author (Shakespeare excepted)

•Bring three printed copies of each text (in English) to the audition

•Full-face photograph

Resume

•Detailed resume listing prior acting experience

Personal Statement

•Approximately 500 words

•Two required; three welcome but not required

•The Fall 2026 application is closed

•For Fall 2027 admission, Tisch says to check back on September 1, 2026 for the next application cycle

Eligibility

•Must have a bachelor degree or be completing one before starting the program

•Exceptions are rarely granted and require an appeal to the Dean

•Applicants may apply to the program a maximum of three times

What's The Process

Audition Process

•First-round auditions are required after the Tisch Graduate Application is submitted

•Approximately 60 applicants from global auditions are invited to final callbacks in New York

•Dates for 2027 auditions and callbacks will be posted in Fall 2026

•Specific callback preparation instructions are provided if selected

•International students unable to travel may audition virtually for the first round

Audition Expectations

•Finalists under consideration for callbacks must attend in person in New York

•The entering class is selected from the final callback round

•Need-based scholarships up to 100% of tuition available

•Tuition scholarships of 65-100% available for most students

•Recent eligible students received over 65% for first 2 years and over 90% in final year
