Audition Requirements
Monologues
TWO CONTRASTING CONTEMPORARY MONOLOGUES, 60-90 sec each
•One dramatic monologue from a play or screenplay
•One comedic monologue from a play or screenplay
•Must be fully memorized
•Select age-appropriate material that showcases your unique strengths
MATERIAL SELECTION
•Choose pieces you feel an emotional connection to
•Avoid monologues that are overly sexual, profane, violent, or suicidal in nature
•Do not imitate the original actor — show your unique interpretation
•Read the entire play or screenplay before performing the monologue

Submission Specifications
SELF-TAPE SPECIFICATIONS
•Frame three-quarter length (approximately waist up)
•Record horizontally (landscape orientation)
•Upload each monologue as a separate video
SLATE
•State your name and the title of the piece before performing
•Deliver the slate directly to camera
EYE LINE
•Find a place off-camera to direct your piece
•Do not look into, above, or below the camera
TECHNICAL
•Ensure clear sound and good lighting
•No distracting backgrounds (posters, activity, etc.)
•Wardrobe should not distract — no large logos, hats, or anything hiding your face
PROPS
•Generally avoid props unless they absolutely enhance performance
•Simple everyday items (cell phone, purse, jacket) are acceptable
•Do not smoke, use prop weapons, or mime

DEFERRAL POLICY
•Accepted students may defer up to one year by paying a $500 deposit plus $500 deferral fee
•Both fees are credited toward first semester tuition

AUDITION FORMAT
•Auditions may be in-person, virtual (live), or submitted as a self-tape
•Contact joey@nyfa.edu to schedule a virtual or in-person live audition
SELF-TAPE SUBMISSION
•Upload monologues as unlisted YouTube links, Vimeo links with password, or Google Drive shareable links
•Videos must be shareable (not private) — NYFA shares with multiple reviewers
•Paste links into the audition/creative portfolio section of the applicant portal
•Do not delete links after submission

•Talent-Based Scholarship — awarded during admissions based on audition evaluation
•Need-Based Scholarship — for students with demonstrated financial need
•Merit-Based Scholarship — for BFA candidates based on high school GPA and admissions materials
•Bridge Grant — supports diverse voices in the filmmaker community
•Rising Artist Scholarship — requires teacher or faculty nomination
