Audition Requirements

Monologues

Requirements

Two contrasting contemporary monologues (published after 1960), 60-90 sec each

One dramatic monologue from a play or screenplay

One comedic monologue from a play or screenplay

Must be fully memorized

Select age-appropriate material that showcases your unique strengths

Material Selection

Choose pieces you feel an emotional connection to

Avoid monologues that are overly sexual, profane, violent, or suicidal in nature

Do not imitate the original actor - show your unique interpretation

Read the entire play or screenplay before performing the monologue

Additional Materials

Transcript

Required: official high school transcript

Statement

Required: narrative statement, maximum 3 typed pages

Address reasons for pursuing a Bachelor of Fine Arts degree in the visual arts, formative creative experiences, contemporary influences, inspirations, and personal artistic goals

Letters of Recommendation

Required: two letters from recommenders who can evaluate readiness for undergraduate study, such as teachers, supervisors, counselors, or coaches

Each recommendation letter must be submitted directly by the recommender through the applicant portal

Scores / GPA

If applicable: proof of English proficiency

Video

Required: two contrasting contemporary filmed monologues published after 1960

One dramatic monologue and one comedic monologue, 60-90 seconds each

Upload/share video links digitally through the applicant portal

Include an accompanying description or context for creative portfolio materials

Application Logistics

Apply through the NYFA website

Required materials are uploaded through the NYFA applicant portal

$75 non-refundable application fee is paid through the online application

Enrollment

Rolling admissions with term-specific application deadlines

Upcoming undergraduate deadlines include Spring 2027 (September 1, 2026) and Fall 2027 (Early Action November 21, 2026; General February 12, 2027)

Important Notes

Accepted students may defer up to one year by paying a $500 deposit plus $500 deferral fee

Both fees are credited toward first semester tuition

Transfer Pathway

BFA Acting for Film transfer applicants may request an official credit evaluation before enrollment. NYFA may apply qualifying liberal arts and equivalent coursework toward degree requirements, though studio-arts transfer is generally restricted.

What's The Process

Audition Process

Submit two recorded monologues as part of the NYFA creative portfolio/audition

Upload monologues as unlisted YouTube links, Vimeo links with password, or Google Drive shareable links

Videos must be shareable (not private) because NYFA shares links with multiple reviewers

Paste links into the audition/creative portfolio section of the applicant portal

Do not delete links after submission

Candidate interview is part of the degree admissions process and may be completed by phone, virtually, or in person with an NYFA representative

Audition Expectations

Auditions may be in person, virtual/live, or submitted as a self-tape
