•Strings — Violin: two studies by Kreutzer, Rode, or Fiorillo; one movement from Bach's unaccompanied sonatas and partitas; one movement from a standard-repertoire concerto
•Strings — Viola: one etude by Campagnoli, Rode, Dont, or Kreutzer; two contrasting movements from a Bach unaccompanied cello suite; one movement from a standard-repertoire concerto
•Strings — Cello: one movement from a Bach solo suite or a sonata movement (e.g., Sammartini or Boccherini); one movement from a standard-repertoire concerto; one etude by Popper, Duport, Gruetzmacher, Merk, or Franchomme
•Strings — Double Bass: an etude demonstrating technical ability; one solo work such as a Vivaldi or Marcello sonata

•Percussion — Timpani: etudes from Goodman or Vic Firth, or orchestral excerpts
